Dr. Joseph Iskandar

Dr. Joseph W. Iskandar was born in Egypt and studied at Cairo University before relocating to the United States in 2000.   He graduated from New Jersey City University with a B.S. cum laude in 2005. Dr. Iskandar received his D.O. from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 with honors.  Dr. Iskandar then began a general psychiatry residency at Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine (VTC), followed by a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.  He received multiple awards including Top Hat Award from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Practice Based Learning Award and Fellow of the Year Award from VTC.

 

Dr. Iskandar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  Dr. Iskander specializes in medication management of children, adolescents and adults who suffer from mental illness.  He views medication management as a collaborative process with the patient, parents, psychotherapist and professionals.  He believes in systematic and careful follow up to allow for the optimization of treatment.
