As May comes to a close, our team at Intercept Health takes a moment to reflect on our initiatives that champion Foster Care Awareness throughout this past month.
Celebrating National Foster Care Month
National Foster Care Month was first recognized in 1988. Its purpose is to honor Foster Parents and raise awareness about the continual need for loving foster homes across the U.S.
As of 2023, over 5,000 children are in Virginia’s Foster Care system, but there are fewer than 3,000 viable Foster Homes.
The need for loving Foster Families has never been greater.
This is why our awareness initiatives are essential. Last month, Governor Glenn Youngkin launched “Safe Kids, Strong Families." He also issued a Certificate of Recognition declaring May as Foster Care Awareness Month in Virginia.
Our Impactful Events
The first two weekends in May were selected for our inaugural Foster Care Aware events. Treatment Foster Care is a cornerstone of Intercept Health’s mission. We believe in helping individuals and families grow to live their healthiest lives. Meeting them where they are is paramount.
Through Intercept Health Treatment Foster Care, we do more than just match potential Foster Parents with Foster Children. We also offer training for Foster Parents to ensure they can provide a high level of support and care.
The Foster Care Aware events connected our communities in Richmond and Roanoke. They were a fun way for participants to learn more about our mission and its importance.
Community Engagement
It was rewarding to witness the joy at these events. Families attended, from those who had never heard of us to supportive Foster Families we've worked with for years. Both occasions showcased community engagement, support, and joy.
To everyone who attended one (or both!) Foster Care Aware events: Thank you! Your support and engagement are invaluable to our cause.
